What is Career Planning / Goal Setting => Something that's done during post your performance review for the next appraisal cycle. For usage any number of jargon's may sound interesting but comprehensive answer is significant to understanding this concept is primary for an Human Resource Professional who is into Manpower/Resource Planning
or Resource Analyst.

Let's understand this a bit more
  • . Goal Setting is done at various stages - Long Term / Short Term / Appraisal Period / Specific Goal/Task Oriented etc..
  • . Career Planning is done at 2 levels - Long Term and Short Term

Goal Setting as a Mechanism for Growth: How?

Big Question.. Isn't it? But Answer is pretty simple. Many at times goal setting is done in organizations only to ensure appraisal process runs smoothly - But inclusive of this managers can take few points into consideration while structuring this document.

  • :Discuss with team member on his/her long term goals
  • : Every Employee would make few plans in their personal life - align them professionally as well - sounds ridiculous but does wonders - Personal Life is biggest factor that can either motivate or demotivate any human professionally
  • : Biggest Strengths you have observed for a period of time about the employee - check their viewpoints on the same and align their goals accordingly. I know I am good with it , It will give me confidence to grow from within.

Restless Mind... Conquering all Odds


Why are we so restless?

Our hands are fidgety when typing - when trying to open a new website - even to type something on the phone - alas the smartphones where the touch plays the role - we are still restless

Is it the mind or our hands? In today's mad chaotic life we are losing the primary aspect of 'being there'. Ahem Ahem -- TOO PHILOSOPHICAL.
  • I was sitting yesterday in the balcony watching a group of children playing a football - everyone else were running and only 1 was standing and waiting. I went on following their game for quite some time - realized suddenly the essential management funda. If everyone runs - who will sit back and evaluate. If everyone evaluates then who will run. Do we have a good mix today? Can't be judgmental about it but I feel NO. As you scale up the ladder - Realization dawns about the same.
  • Quality nowadays is the prerogative for everyone. Every single person wants quality - be in personal / professional / music / movies absolutely anything. 
  •  What is the chemistry - everyone talks about chemistry nowadays . Actual chemistry should be between family members -  between friends - between team members - between manager and subordinates - between domestic helps and housemates - between regular helpers and homemakers - between children and children. All that is Lacking today as everyone's busy in their own little worlds. 
May be if we focus our minds on right time and right thing.. hmm - random thoughts again.

Sourcing Strategy - Recruitment

Many at times in organizations as HR Professionals we wonder regarding the smallest nuances in recruitment. What is a sourcing strategy in recruitment - Evaluating those aspects of recruitment that might be generic by nature but hold a significant relevance to the successful placement of right candidates for the requirement. Few points to remember in recruitment (Of Course I do agree many know these points have already been read and written about but just to refresh)
 1. Analyzing the requirement is very important before working on it
 2. Search Criteria in portals should contain only the keywords
 3. Professional Networking Sites can be good source of connecting with fellow professionals and to build database of CV's

While scrutinizing the CV's, it is very important to understand few things.
 1. Number of Years of Experience is not equivalent to Relevance
 2. Relevant CV's - Relevance to your current requirement need to be verified in terms of Skill sets, Years of Exp etc
 3. Stability Index - An Important Criteria for taking the CV to the next level

While speaking to the potential candidates certain points to be remembered
 1. A very clear communication on the requirement in your organization
 2. Compensation and other benefits details also need to be communicated clearly
 3. Interest of the candidate for the position needs to be checked
 4. Matching the candidate's and organization's expectations is very important while discussing the future  prospects
5. Communication Skills of the candidates is a very important criteria
6. Candidate's aspirations for the future
7. Position demands need to be clarified - expectations need to be prioritized

The Most Important aspect of recruitment is Mind Mapping. Few points to be noted by the recruitment personnel while hiring potential candidates for the job.
1. Building a complicated idea from a single source
2. Analyzing the situations to the understand the complexity of the situation
3. Best Possible analysis for the role envisioned
4. Results prediction based on both positive and negative scenario's
5. Better Decision Making in terms of best results
6. Unbiased and rationale thought process

 Few things recruiters should always keep in mind.
1. Not every candidate has all the qualities required for the position
2. If Key Areas are satisfied then other negative aspects of the candidate can still be verified.
3. Candidate should never be kept in dark regarding compensation to be offered - effective communication is the key to build a long lasting relationship.

Career Planning as a individual goal

: Aligning career planning to goal setting can help individuals attain their personal and professional goals to a large extent.
: Career Planning can be done starting with the shorter duration and moving towards long term
: Doing a SWOT Analysis holds true while planning one's career
: I , ME , MYSELF is a very important factor in career planning
: Adhering to current trends / Understanding the industry best practices also helps to enhance onself
: Updating onself on a continuous bases in the best way to stay tuned to the latest practices
: Interacting with fellow corporates in the same field / understanding growth patterns/ doing a bit of market study does help

At the end of the day what matters most is whether being born as humans what have i learnt that differentiates me from others and have i given back something to the society i live in..

Human Resource Professionals - What'z THAT?

Human Resources - Are we working professionals working in all the sectors across the world resources or positioned individuals. ANSWER Z quite puzzling too...

HR's across the world are considered as Cost Centers. Wonder Why? Few Things That might make a difference.

. Do HR Managers Budget their departments for the coming financial year?
. Do you know HR's can be billed along business units provided they work towards the engagement of employees in a productive manner?
. GAP Analysis / Attrition Analysis can be used productively for Manpower Planning
. Creating a Business Partner - HR for group of 100 employees can reduce attrition and increase retention
. For a Organization Strength of <200 - 300 Employees there can be a town hall conducted every month to address concerns.
. Town Hall can be done in cafeteria during coffee breaks for half hour post lunch and address a group of 50/60 at a time.

My few years of experience in the Industry has taught me - THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE FOR ANY HR PROFESSIONAL IS TO MAKE HIS/HER EMPLOYEES TRUST AND CONFIDE IN HIM.

IF FOUNDATION IS DONE SUCCESSFULLY BUILDING A STRONG STRUCTURE OVER IT BECOMES VERY EASY.

As a teenager, I thought winters were awesome, romantic, cold and cool breeze hitting your face while leaving for college.

WINTER SUCKS NOW. Kids not feeling well. All work slows down, team members fall sick, productivity reduces and so on................

Life changed dramatically in these past years. What was yest years romance has become today's sad reality.

Mrutyunjayaaa - BEING ALONE

What's the most catastrophic in your Life? Common Question and Mostly Answer would be some dear one's demise.

I THE WONDER - LIFE IS A PUZZLE

And being with someone when not being with the one is the precise thing. I hear many reciting the mrutyunjaya mantra in the hope this uneventful event gets postponed for the time-being in their life but As our KATHA UPANISHAD says this mrutyu as teacher.

श्रेयश्च प्रेयश्च मनुष्यमेतः
तौ सम्परीत्य विविनक्ति धीरः ।
श्रेयो हि धीरोऽभि प्रेयसो वृणीते
प्रेयो मन्दो योगक्षेमाद्वृणीते

Which means The preferable and the pleasurable approach man.
The intelligent one examines both and separates them.
the intelligent one prefers the preferable to the pleasurable,
(whereas) the ignorant one selects the pleasurable

I am never less alone, than when I am alone.. UNINHABITED State of being self - NO AWARENESS OF ANYONE and BEING ABSOLUTELY TRUTHFUL TO ONE..

It's OK being single and enjoying solitary confinement as long as it doesn't become an addiction.
